Installs through the package manager and shows up in the app menu.

In a terminal, in the download folder

sudo apt install ./MepMail_1.0.1_amd64.deb

Updates: the app tells you about a new version and installs it from the tray, with your system password.

AppImage

One file, nothing to install. It carries its own WebKitGTK, so it is bigger (about 80 MB).

In a terminal, in the download folder

chmod +x MepMail_1.0.1_amd64.AppImage && ./MepMail_1.0.1_amd64.AppImage

Updates: the file updates itself, no password needed.

Good to know

  • The tray icon uses AppIndicator. On GNOME without the AppIndicator extension (Ubuntu ships it), the app works the same, just without the icon.
  • Agent keys live in the system keyring (GNOME Keyring or KWallet), never in a text file.
  • Start with the system and Keep in tray on close are in the tray icon's menu.
